Truleigh Hill YHS
Final Hill of the day
Cloudy until mid-afternoon, then sunshine.
The first half mile from the YHA was a struggle as Doug tried to get his dodgy knee going. This would be a long and hilly day so would Doug make it?
The part of the walk was to Devils Dyke. Although the dry valley is impressive, I would not go out of my way to visit this tourist attraction and it's rather tatty looking, from the outside, pub. From there we headed to Pyecombe to cross the A23 and then the A273 where we took a wrong route and led a couple of other walkers astray. Backtracking we headed to Clayton and the Jack and Jill windmills.
Next, we headed to Ditchling Beacon, which Doug would cycle up a couple of months later on the London to Brighton cycle ride with Keith and his sons Kristain and Karl. We had lunch here and rang the B&B from Ditchling Beacon to book a room for that evening. We then headed towards Black Cap and dropped down from the hills to cross the A27, before our final ascent of the day, along the ridge and descended to Kingston near Lewis and our B&B for the night.
The B&B had two bedrooms but the other room was already booked for the night. We had to share a double bed, fortunately with 2 single mattresses. That evening we walked to the local pub where we met the two walkers who had followed us on the wrong route earlier.
Keith had assumed we would find a B&B in Lewes, and we had forgotten to ring him to let him know where we were. He searched a couple pubs in Lewes and tried to find us, of course without success.
